Functional Games for Chair‑based Exercise
Overview
This course is an extension of what you have learned on the chair-based exercise course. In this course you will learn about the functional skills, drills and games that you can incorporate in your chair-based exercise classes.
With 20 solo and functional drills focusing on handling skills, each with numerous regressions, progressions, and variations. These are excellent for developing fine motor skills, neuromuscular coordination, and psychomotor skills. We then move on to 12 functional games, each with many progressions to keep the games fresh.
This Functional Games for Chair Based Exercise course can be completed online in approximately 2-4 hours.
On successful completion it leads to an AllActive Level 2 Certificate Functional Games for Chair Based Exercise.

Complete the Functional Games for Chair Based Exercise course online via AllActive’s Learnstream platform. Do I need to buy additional equipment?
To run a games-based class you will need some equipment and the more available, the wider range of games and drills, you’ll be able to include. A typical selection of equipment suited to recreational physical activities: Bean bags, Quoits, Hula hoops, Parachute, Various balls.
What is the difference between fitness approach and a games-based approach?
A fitness-based approach to chair-based exercise focuses on structured activities that improve strength, flexibility, balance, and cardiovascular fitness. Participants typically follow specific exercises, such as resistance band routines, seated aerobics, or stretching, with the emphasis on technique, repetitions, and achieving fitness goals.
A games-based approach uses fun activities such as throwing and catching, target games, hoops, and parachute exercises to encourage movement. While participants still gain physical benefits, the focus is on enjoyment, social interaction, and engagement, making exercise feel less like a workout and more like a recreational activity.
Who is this course suitable for?
Please note that you must already have a Chair-based Exercise Instructing certificate for this CPD course (also important for validity of insurance).
What settings can I run these classes in?
This course enables the instructor to run a seated parachute session or within a chair-based exercise sessions in a variety of settings, for example, within health, adult social care and leisure environments.
How do I get my certificate?
If you are taking the online course format, then the certificate can be automatically downloaded as soon as you have passed the quiz.
After this course, what can I study next?
Once you have completed this course, there are other games-based courses available or you may consider an advanced Level 3 course.

This course contributes 4 CPD points.
What happens if I don’t pass the quiz?
If you should need to retake the quiz to pass the course, this will be available free-of-charge and automatically available.
Do I need to purchase the book with the course?
This is entirely optional as all the content required for the course is available via AllActive’s Learnstream platform. You may find it useful to accompany your studies and then afterwards for reference in the future.
Is this course available in different languages?
If you would prefer to view the course in a different language, this can be done easily. Our eLearning platform is compatible with the built-in translation feature available in Google Chrome, allowing users to translate the course content into a wide range of languages, including Urdu.
