Understanding Health Improvement
Overview
How people can help others improve their health is central to this qualification. The course will support the role of a health promoter in the community and the workplace. It will equip you with the basic knowledge and understanding of the principles of promoting health and wellbeing and covers examples of inequalities in health within the UK, their possible causes and current approaches to tackling these inequalities.
You will learn how effective communication can support health messages, how to promote improvements in the health and wellbeing of others and understand the impact of behaviour change on improving a person’s health and wellbeing.
This Understanding Health Improvement course can be completed online.
On successful completion it leads to a RSPH Level 2 Award in Understanding Health Improvement.

Format & Assessment
Format
Complete the Understanding Health Improvement course online via AllActive’s Learnstream platform. The course includes videos, downloads and podcasts covering the content. You’ll have 12 months’ access in which time you will need to have taken your RSPH eAssessment.
Assessment
- Online multiple-choice exam taken on a weekday of your choosing between 9-5 (at least a weeks’ notice required to schedule your exam). You will need to get 20/30 to pass. Exam duration is 45 minutes and taken on an E-Assessment platform, Surpass, that will be recorded and then invigilated.
- Resits are £42.10 (inc. VAT).
- You’ll retain access to the course for 12 months, allowing you to revisit the material after completing the course.

Does this course enable me to assess or diagnose people’s health and fitness?
No, this qualification is not about assessing or diagnosing people’s health and fitness using detailed questionnaires or specialist exercise equipment and techniques.
How do I get my certificate?
Following a successful pass of the eAssessment, RSPH will award your ecertificate will be emailed you a couple of weeks afterwards.
What happens if I don’t pass the assessment?
If you don’t take or fail your scheduled assessment then you can resit. Resit fees are £42.10.
After this course, what can I study next?
Once you have completed this course, you may be interested in another RSPH qualification, Level 2 Award in Encouraging Physical Activity.
For CIMSPA members, how many points does this course contribute to CPD?
This course is endorsed by The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity with 8 CPD points (to CIMSPA’s Health Navigator Professional Standard).
Is there are hard-copy book with the course?
There is not a course book however you will have a years’ access to the course so the content can be revisited for reference after gaining your certificate.
Is this course available in different languages?
If you would prefer to view the course in a different language, this can be done easily. Our eLearning platform is compatible with the built-in translation feature available in Google Chrome, allowing users to translate the course content into a wide range of languages, including Urdu.
Most of the course content can be translated, including video transcripts. This means that while watching the videos, learners can read translated subtitles/transcripts alongside the content to support their understanding.
